More Great Gear Coming!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Oct 08, 2020 at 09:59:53 AM

Hey BLDRs,

Thanks again for backing the McCoy Jacket on Kickstarter! Hard to believe it’s been just over 2 years since you made these jackets happen. To this day it’s one of the products that makes me the proudest. It took a lot for us to get them sourced, made, and into your hands with uncompromising quality…

Every time I see a McCoy leave our warehouse it makes me smile. Because I know its new owner is about to put their hands on one of the best moto jackets on the planet:

Speaking of great gear, I wanted to let you know about our next big thing. Because we’re back on Kickstarter with a brand new product…

The Extra Mile Bags!!!

You can back the campaign right here: https://bit.ly/2EZJ7E7

These are the second bags we’ve ever released. And we’re getting better at it every time. The Extra Mile bags are heritage-quality bags without the bells, whistles, and gadgets that go out of style.

We named them the Extra Mile bags for one simple reason...

Because we’ve really gone the extra mile for YOU!

The Extra Mile backpack has everything a 100-year bag needs to have...

  • 18oz waxed canvas for water resistance18oz waxed canvas for water resistance

  • Vegetable-tanned, full grain leather for durability and eco-friendly design

  • Quick-release ring snaps on the back to get into your stuff with a flick of the wrist

  • Thick grab handle and wide shoulders for heavy loads and long hikes

  • Padded back for comfort

  • Drawstring closure up top to keep all your goods dry and safe from pickpockets

  • Lash tabs on the bottom if you want to add a sleeping bag or a tent to the bottom

It's got all the basics without the fancy features that'll break or look weird in 20 years. The Extra Mile duffle has also been designed for a lifetime of journeys:

  • 18oz waxed canvas to keep your clothes safe and dry from rain, sleet or snow

  • Corded leather handles for swinging and carrying all your gear to faraway places

  • Strong brass hardware and rivets that look better the more time goes by

  • Sneaky outside ticket pocket so you never forget your passes at home (it's happened to me)

Since you’ve backed us on Kickstarter before, we thought we’d show you some extra love.

In addition to getting the best price EVER on these bags, we’ll throw in one of these:

GET YOUR EXTRA MILE BAGS: https://bit.ly/2EZJ7E7

That’s right A FREE Pack Animal t-shirt! These sell on our site everyday for $30. But I want to give you one on us as a thank you. Because we want your help to launch ANOTHER kickass product on Kickstarter.

To get your free tee, all you have to do is back the campaign.

Shoot us a message on Kickstarter or an email and we will make sure you get your tee!

Plus you get to own an awesome set of bags for your next adventure. This Kickstarter is just one more way we’re working to put a smile on your face every time you walk into your closet.

Thanks for your support,

Dave

McCoy Wrap Up and Retrospective
almost 7 years ago – Sat, Jun 15, 2019 at 12:48:32 AM

Dearest Tobackers, Tobacsters, Toblacsters, Tobacarinos etc.

All McCoys Have Shipped!

With the exception of a handful of special cases, (you know who you are) all pre-ordered jackets have been finished and shipped. Some international backers may still have jackets in the mail, but most of you now have your McCoy.

Thank you all for backing us. Thank you for your patience. Thank you to all those who have reached out in so many ways to say they love the finished product. We worked hard on it, glad you like it.

Better Late Than Never!

The McCoy project changed Tobacco as a company. Here's a few thoughts on what happened and what we learned.

  •  Get your supply chain in place BEFORE launch. I made a lot of assumptions about the McCoy supply chain based on our jean/riding shirts, that proved to be wrong.
  •  Don't overextend yourself, don't be over critical, stay focused, take it a day at a time. All big tasks are accomplished by doing a bunch of little tasks. Many times I felt overwhelmed, I felt I had over-built this jacket. People were telling me how complicated it was. It was taking so long and I was putting tons of pressure on everyone to go faster. That's why there were so many missed delivery dates. I think the workers were just telling me what I wanted to hear, even if it was impossible. When I accepted that the jackets would be finished when they were finished, I was able to actually see road blocks and remove them where possible. Losing your cool, just ain't cool.
  •  You trust us. I can't tell you how bad it felt each time the jackets were delayed. I was embarrassed and worried I was tearing down what we had worked so hard to build. However, after each update, good or bad, there was always someone thanking us for being transparent and taking the time to do it right. There are horror stories of Kickstarter backers NEVER receiving their rewards, companies that blow through the money on un necessary crap and never deliver. You know that isn't Tobacco. Pre-order money goes to pre-order production until the job is done.
  •  Kickstarter will continue to be a part of our process going forward. Despite delays, caused in part by over-selling, we were amazed at the love the McCoy got, raising almost 250K. Pre-selling allows us to test the market for new products AND discount those products to backers. Not all new Tobacco products will go on Kickstarter, but stay tuned because we will have more to come.
  •  Many hands make light work. It just so happens that we have some of the best hands around. From the factory workers, to the production manager, to our amazing vendors who put rushes on everything they could, to the helpers we had packing boxes to get you your package as soon as possible, everyone worked long and hard days to bring you your McCoy.
  • SPECIAL THANKS: Goes to Nate, our Customer Service/Logistics manager. My mistakes made his job really, REALLY hard. He has answered loads of emails, DM's and phone calls. Handled shipping, and exchanges the very best anyone could. If you love your jacket, take a pic of you in your McCoy, tag @tobaccomotorwearco but you might also include a #ThanksNate for good measure.

I could go on and on but this is long enough already. The point is we have all grown up quite a bit since launching the McCoy, in a good way. Tobacco feels a little less like 3 monkeys humping a football and more like the brand we want it to be. We hope, despite our weaknesses, you'll come along for the ride, it will only get better.

Love and Safety,

Dave

Women's Are IN!!! All related orders shipping this week!
almost 7 years ago – Wed, Jun 05, 2019 at 03:18:02 AM

My dear backers,

The time has come...

Women's McCoys are in and... IN STOCK!

What does this mean for you? If you are one of the fabulously generous and patient women who waited all this time to get your jacket, you shall have it soon. We are shipping everything out this week.

If you ordered a His & Hers combo, you have also been waiting on your men's jacket, both will go out together. Men's Jeans, Women's Jeans, Duffels and all other items you ordered with your jacket will ship together!

Exchanges and Inventory

A while back we decided to put off production of all extra jackets to focus on jackets that had been pre-ordered. This saved 2-3 weeks from your wait, but left us without any extra inventory for exchanges or new orders. For our women's McCoys this won't be a problem, we did receive our women's inventory along with pre-orders.

If you need an exchange, please email [email protected] for details on how to exchange. For men waiting on exchange, we should be receiving the remainder of our inventory in about two weeks. If you are waiting for a different size to come in, it won't be much longer.

Thanks again for the love and patience.

Ride safe and roam free,

Dave

Blacks McCoys Going Out, Women's on deck! | California Riding Shirts 2.0
almost 7 years ago – Tue, May 14, 2019 at 01:42:50 AM

My faithful ToBLACKsters,

Men's Black McCoys being finished and shipping this week!

If you haven't been following us on instagram @tobaccomotorwearco (you should) you may have missed me going live from the factory where the McCoys are being finished. I will be the first to admit we are not perfect and we have had a number of supply chain problems with the McCoy. BUT, we are always learning and this jacket has taught us a ton! Thank you for your patience. I think you will agree when you get your jacket, it was worth the wait.

The factory is putting finishing touches on the last of the men's black now. We will be shipping this week! They have already started with the women's McCoy and are doing both colors at the same time. These will be done over the next two weeks or so.

Let me apologize if updates have been sporadic.  I try to highlight the big moments and progress on Instagram but sometimes I'm so focused on getting the job done I forget to document or post about the progress. Thanks again for your patience!

Check out the New California Riding Shirts!

Our CA Riding Shirt has become a favorite of anyone who puts it on. I can't tell you how many people have reached out to say they live in it and never take it off. Still, over the years we have looked at ways to make it better for riders but not lose the tough-as-nails lines and look of the original. Well I think it came out pretty good.

And the best part is, NO WAITING! We have the CA Riding shirt in stock! But we only made 100 in Folsom Blue Herringbone, so if it revs your engine you might want to check it.

See all new Riding Shirts here...

You guys keep us going. Even when I get bogged down dealing with a factory or supply chain struggles, I don't get discouraged. I love being able to create products you will wear for years to come.

Thanks for everything,

Dave

Black and Womens McCoy update
almost 7 years ago – Tue, Apr 23, 2019 at 06:52:49 PM

McCoy-ers

Once again, I want to thank everyone for the patience and support we are shown on a daily basis. When I post an IG story update from the factory at 11 pm on a Friday, the messages of support I get from you mean the world, so thanks.

I want you to know that we take these delay's seriously and are working to understand this process better, so the next time we do a kickstarter we will be better prepared to handle any level of success and any size order.

If you are still waiting on your McCoy, don't despair. We are still hard at work on them. We check in with the factory daily and help in any way we possibly can.  We recently brought on a handful of additional workers to help speed the work along.  Anything we can possibly do to speed up the process we are doing.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, the McCoy is the REAL DEAL!

Hundreds of people already have their Mccoys and we have gotten lots messages from people saying that it was worth the wait, that the jacket is amazing, and that anyone waiting for a black or women's McCoy is in for a real treat. (Ok, maybe they didn't use the word 'treat', but you get the idea.)

Given the record of the factory, I hate to put a date for delivery, but yesterday the they told me -and based on what I've seen there- the blacks should be ready in 2-3 weeks, and women's should be done around a week later.

In the words of the immortal Buddy Holly, "Every day, It's a-gettin' closer!"

Thanks for the love,

Dave
